Abstract
Anaemia in pregnant women is a serious world-wide public health problem with adverse pregnancy

diseases in India. The present study is being done to know the prevalence of thalassemia in a rural tertiary
care centre of Western Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 340 anaemic pregnant women were included in our
study. Out of 340 pregnant females, 71.47% were found to have iron deficiency anaemia, megaloblastic
(18.23%), dimorphic anaemia (6.2%) and haemoglobinopathies 4.1%.
